Labor-Management Relations

Clifton Budd & DeMaria, LLP has unparalleled experience and success in “traditional labor law.”  This proficiency is exemplified by the many seminars conducted by the firm, the numerous union avoidance textbooks and articles authored by our attorneys, the myriad of collective bargaining agreements negotiated and the multitude of arbitrations handled by the firm each year.

Our work in traditional labor law matters includes:  representation elections before the National Labor Relations Board and comparable state agencies, union campaigns and strike preparation, negotiating favorable collective bargaining agreements, arbitrating grievances, advice on contract administration issues such as just cause discipline, terminations and contract interpretation, and supervisory training in collective bargaining agreement administration, union organizing and related labor matters.

Dramatic changes in the U.S. labor policy have been set in motion during the last several years.  Although unionization, in general, has been in decline, union-free employers are now seeing an aggressive labor movement assisted by a labor law regulatory scheme that provides a hospitable atmosphere for non-traditional union organizing.  Computers, union websites and access to employees through e-mail have also facilitated union organizing.  Additionally, unionized employers are faced with increased pressure from unions through class-action grievances and unrealistic and potentially devastating demands at the bargaining table.  Our attorneys have helped clients successfully avoid potential landmines and helped them to thrive.
